U11 Silsen 4 Farsley Celtic 2

Poor weather had restricted Silsden to only being able to complete two league games so far this season, so they were keen to get this re-arranged cup fixture underway. These teams will know each other extremely well by next weekend, as this game was the second installment of three back to back encounters, Silsden having just edged the away game 2-3 in nail biting finish.

The teams were very evenly matched in a first half, where both had a good number of chances, but a combination of lacklustre finishing and good defensive work restricted the score to one nil at half time. The spoils going to Farsley, who created a superb goal when a well flighted ball from the right wing was headed into the roof of the net.

Silsden seemed much more determined in the second half, and had the bulk of the position, most of which was in Farsley's third of the pitch. Their efforts were rewarded when a corner fell to Jack Watkinson in the middle of the box, and he scored the first of two goals with a cool finish. His second came shortly after, when the ball broke quickly and Watkinson again placed the ball into the net. However, Silsden's focus on attacking play meant that they were left vulnerable at the back. Farsley managed to take advantage of this when a slide rule pass cut Silsden's defence in two. Keeper George Muir attempted to get to the ball first, but the striker won the race and slipped the ball into the back of the empty net.

From that point on the game could literally have gone either way, until Silsden again took the lead. With his back to goal, the home team's man of the match Nathan Town, cushioned a flighted ball with his right leg, he then turned and shot past the diving keeper into the net. This seemed to knock the wind out of Farsley's sails, who had worked so hard to get back on level terms. Town put the game beyond any doubt with his second, when he latched onto a long through ball on the half way line. With only the keeper to beat he raced forward and lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper into the goal from some distance.
